He is the author of Memory and Dread: or the Memory of Childhood (New York: Jorge Pinto Books, 2010), the first volume in a trilogy on memory translated into English, and Jouissance: a Lacanian Concept translated from Spanish into several languages (but not English). He has written several papers and book chapters on Lacanian psychoanalysis, and has presented papers to a variety of international audiences.
Title: The Borderlines of Lacan
In this presentation, we will discuss the concept of ‘borderlines’ and how it may or may not relate to the work of Lacan. For example, what are the borderlines between psychiatry and psychoanalysis? Can we even speak about the border-line in Lacan? Can we say that a borderline condition is a concept that lies on the frontier between neurosis and psychosis? Using Lacan’s consideration of the Wolfman as a borderline case and the case of Joyce and the Borromean rings, we will explore various aspects of the theoretical and clinical dimensions of this contemporary diagnosis.
