Title: On a Question of the Feminine: Psychoanalysis and Creativity

This presentation will consider several questions pertaining to the feminine and its relation to both psychoanalysis and creativity. Both psychoanalysis and the creative act involve a certain relationship with knowledge. If we consider knowledge to be characterized by an artificial and structural organization constructed by culture, we can pose the following questions: Does there exist a knowledge (savoir) that exceeds these limitations? Is it possible to consider a ‘beyond’ that borders on the side of creation and the creative act that is characterized by a certain encounter with the unknown? And would this process be related to a certain feminine jouissance? We will use examples from both art, in particular the Baroque, and psychanalysis to explore these and related questions.

Presenter: Dr.Denise Maurano (Brazil)
